Google has rebranded its Find My Device service to Find Hub after a less-than-stellar launch last year. The name change comes alongside several new features, including the ability to locate luggage, suggesting a broader and more practical scope for the app.
Expanded Tracking and New Integrations
The goal of the updated Find Hub app is to make it easier to track a wider range of personal belongings. To do this, Google is collaborating with a growing number of partners who are integrating their devices and Bluetooth trackers with the Find Hub network. This expands the app’s capabilities beyond Bluetooth tags from companies like Pebblebee and Chipolo.
According to reports, brands like Mokobara are expected to release luggage that can be tracked via Find Hub. Additionally, specialized trackers from Peak are being developed to help users keep tabs on their ski gear. Later this month, Android users with Motorola’s Moto trackers will be able to benefit from Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology for more precise tracking.
In addition to item tracking, the app now includes a location sharing feature. This allows users to share their location online with trusted contacts, such as friends and family. Those who opt into this feature will appear under the People tab within the app. Google has also confirmed that location sharing will be improved later this year with satellite support, making it functional even in areas without cellular coverage.
Improved Travel Support and Broader Availability
Google is also focusing on travel-related use cases, adds NIX Solutions. New partnerships with airlines including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, and Singapore Airlines will allow users to share tracker locations. This integration aims to reduce the risk of losing luggage while traveling and to help others locate lost items more efficiently.
The Find Hub app is currently available for Android devices running version 6 and above. With the addition of travel support, satellite features, and expanded device compatibility, Google appears to be positioning Find Hub as a more versatile and practical tool for everyday use. We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available and additional partners join the network.
