Google has begun rolling out a Gemini sidebar to the web version of its Gmail email service, which will make it easier for users to work with email correspondence. An assistant with artificial intelligence compiles a summary of information in correspondence and assists in creating new letters.
Features of Gemini for Gmail
For email, Gemini offers “proactive prompts” and allows users to “ask free-form questions”—the system is “built using Google’s most powerful models,” including Gemini 1.5 Pro. The feature of compiling summaries based on correspondence history is also available in the Gmail mobile application.
For now, these features are only available to paid users of Gemini: Google Workspace subscribers with Gemini Business or Enterprise, Gemini Education or Education Premium, and Google One AI Premium. An AI assistant can make solving work problems much easier, but you shouldn’t trust it too much either. The problem with AI “hallucinations” has not yet been resolved, and it is recommended to double-check letters compiled by the system several times before sending, notes NIX Solutions.
Future Expansion and Cautions
In the future, Gemini features will appear in Google’s office web applications: Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive. At the I/O event in May, the company announced that they were already preparing for release. Gmail is also set to get a Contextual Smart Reply feature.
