Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has announced a new video editing app called Edits, aimed at competing with ByteDance’s CapCut. CapCut, along with TikTok, was recently removed from the U.S. Apple App Store and Google Play following a new law. Edits is now available for pre-order in the Apple App Store.
“There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what, our job is to give creators the best tools possible,” Mosseri said in a video posted to Instagram.
Advanced Creative Features
Mosseri described Edits as more than just a video editing app, highlighting its full suite of creative tools. The app will include features such as:
- A dedicated inspiration tab.
- A space for tracking early ideas.
- An upgraded camera with improved functionality.
- Comprehensive editing tools.
- The ability to share drafts with friends and collaborators.
- Insights to analyze video performance for those publishing content on Instagram.
Some unique features of the app are the “fresh ideas dashboard,” metrics for subscriber vs. non-subscriber engagement, and data on how frequently viewers skip certain videos.
A Broader Creative Vision
In response to The Verge, Mosseri revealed that Meta has been developing Edits “for months now.” He emphasized that Edits will differ significantly from CapCut, offering a wider range of creative tools but catering to a smaller target audience.
