OpenAI has announced a festive update: ChatGPT users can now engage in voice chats with a virtual Santa Claus through the mobile, desktop, and web apps. This feature, called “Advanced Voice Mode,” also includes the ability to broadcast videos and share your computer screen.
Santa’s voice and personality are available as a preset in ChatGPT’s voice mode. To access them, click the snowflake icon near the query bar or find it in the voice settings. The feature is active across iOS and Android apps, Windows and macOS clients, and the ChatGPT website. It will be available until early January. Note that conversations with Santa are temporary; their history is not saved or added to the model’s long-term memory.
Free Santa Chats Despite Voice Limits
As a seasonal gift, OpenAI has announced a one-time reset of the voice mode restrictions. Even if a user has already used up their time quota, they can still chat with the virtual Santa. However, children are unable to use this feature, as ChatGPT has an age restriction. According to its user agreement, users must be at least 13 years old to access the service. Those under 18 must have parental or legal guardian consent.
Enhanced Features for Paid Users
The expanded voice mode now supports broadcasting video and screen-sharing capabilities. First introduced with the GPT-4 model in May, these features allow users to show objects directly to the AI, rather than relying on descriptions or uploading photos. Paid subscribers of the Plus and Pro plans in most countries can access real-time video communication through the ChatGPT mobile app. In the EU, this feature will roll out slightly later, adds NIX Solutions. Corporate and educational users will gain access to it starting in January.
This update offers a richer, more interactive ChatGPT experience. We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
