Google has introduced Screen Time Reminders, a new tool within its Digital Wellbeing suite, aimed at helping Android users manage their screen time more effectively. This feature offers non-strict notifications, nudging users to exit apps after spending a significant amount of time in them.
Unlike the app time limits already available in Digital Wellbeing, these reminders are less rigid. Instead of enforcing strict cutoffs, they display occasional pop-ups at the top of the screen. These subtle notifications serve as a gentle reminder to reconsider prolonged app use.
How It Works and Customization
Reports suggest that users may see these reminders after 15 to 25 minutes of app activity, often in apps like social media. However, Google describes the timing as “random,” and there’s currently no option to adjust the notification frequency.
Once the feature is enabled, it applies to all apps by default. However, users can turn off reminders for specific apps where extended usage is expected, such as video streaming or gaming platforms. This customization is accessible by tapping the notification when it appears. It’s worth noting that the feature is disabled by default and must be activated manually through your Digital Wellbeing settings.
Availability Across Devices
Screen Time Reminders are rolling out to a variety of Android devices, including those from OnePlus, Oppo, and Nothing, in addition to Google Pixel phones. However, Samsung Galaxy phones are currently excluded, as Samsung’s version of Digital Wellbeing does not yet offer this functionality, notes NIX Solutions.
With this feature, Google continues its efforts to promote healthier digital habits. As the rollout progresses, we’ll keep you updated on future integrations and enhancements.
