During a Q&A session with users on Weibo, Xiaomi revealed key details about the upcoming update of its proprietary HyperOS firmware to version 2.2. This new version includes system customization enhancements, improvements to the camera and user interface, and refinements in AI functions.
A central feature of the update is the expanded lock screen customization. Users will now be able to assign shortcuts for quick access to essential functions. These include the flashlight, camera, stopwatch, voice recorder, compass, calculator, and even music recognition. At this stage, this option is only available with two themes: classic and frameless.
The status bar will also offer more flexibility. For instance, users can choose which icons will be displayed permanently—such as Internet speed, Bluetooth status, or the battery charge of connected devices. Additionally, there will be options to hide or rename the cellular operator’s name.
Camera and UI Enhancements
The update also brings cosmetic improvements to the camera interface. On new models, yellow accents will be introduced, which users can disable if they prefer a more neutral look. A key innovation is that night mode will now activate automatically in low-light conditions, although manual control will still be available.
Other subtle refinements throughout the interface aim to make daily usage smoother and more visually consistent, while providing a more tailored experience.
The rollout of HyperOS 2.2 will begin over-the-air in the coming month, notes NIX Solutions. The first devices to receive it will be the recently introduced Xiaomi 15S Pro, Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra, and Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro. However, Xiaomi emphasized that the update will only begin after the final stage of testing has been completed. This cautious approach reflects the company’s commitment to stability and user experience.
We’ll keep you updated as the HyperOS 2.2 rollout progresses and more integrations become available.
