OpenAI has announced plans to integrate its AI-powered video generator, Sora, into the ChatGPT chatbot. This information was shared by the company’s management during a Discord session.
At present, Sora is only accessible through a separate web app, launched in December, capable of generating cinematic-quality videos up to 20 seconds long. Rohan Sahai, the head of the Sora project at OpenAI, revealed that the company plans to expand both the service’s presence and its video generation capabilities. Initially, Sora was introduced to creative professionals and studios producing video content. Now, OpenAI is actively working to make the tool more widely appealing.
Sora’s Integration with ChatGPT
Although OpenAI has confirmed its plans to integrate Sora with ChatGPT, the timeline for implementation remains undisclosed. In its integrated form, Sora will likely have fewer features than its standalone web app, which allows users to edit and assemble videos. However, incorporating Sora into ChatGPT could further boost the chatbot’s popularity and encourage more users to subscribe to premium plans, which offer increased video generation limits.
Sora was initially launched separately to maintain ChatGPT’s simplicity. Since then, OpenAI has allowed users to view videos created by others and is considering a standalone Sora mobile app. The company has already started recruiting developers for this project.
Expanding Sora’s Capabilities
Beyond video generation, OpenAI is also exploring the use of Sora for creating static images, adds NIXSolutions. While ChatGPT already features the DALL-E 3 image generator, Sora is expected to produce more photorealistic visuals. Additionally, OpenAI is working on an upgraded version of the Sora Turbo model, which serves as the foundation for the current app.
The company continues to expand Sora’s functionality, and we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
